Recommended Camper/Van Rental
When we last visited Japan, we spent 3 weeks exploring the entire north island of Hokkaido using a Camper Van. This might seem a little counterintuitive, given it is so cold and there is so much snow, however we couldn’t have had a better experience! Japan is extremely well set up to accommodate Camper Vans, with many rest stops with restrooms where parking overnight is allowed. We didn’t find any rest stops with public showers however, though we just used this as a good excuse to visit a new onsen every day!
