Hotel La Vista Daisetsuzan
Hotel La Vista Daisetsuzan is near the base of the Asahidake Ropeway and uses hot water from a natural source along the Yukomabetsu River. The space is not the largest, however the layout is nicely done. To the left of the changing room is a private room with two personal baths that are made out of wood. When you dip into the personal bath all of the hot water overflows onto the floor, which is made to collect the water. Inside the onsen there is an indoor bath and cold plunge to the left that has a nice view of the Daisetsuzan National Park. Outside there are three jet baths and an open-air bath that’s made from natural stones.
This was one of our first onsens that we visited in Central Hokkaido, and we were not disappointed. La Vista is a larger hotel chain in Japan, so the experience was crafted for westerners and tourists. When we visited the onsen it was busy with a snowboard crew who recently finished a video shoot up at Mount Asahidake. We liked how all of the materials used were wood and stone, which was a nice touch to help blend the onsen into the natural environment. We recommend visiting La Vista if you’re visiting Mount Asahidake for a ski, snowboard or hike.
