Chinese Herbal Medicine Hot Water Asahikawa Health Land
The very short summary to this onsen is avoid, we collectively were not a fan at all! Slightly different to the more traditional onsens, possibly because of the Chinese influence, it still retains all the aspects you would expect with showers, hot pools and saunas, however there are a few things to note.
We found this onsen to not have the same standards of cleanliness as we would have come to expect from other onsens we have visited. However this wasn’t the most egregious crime here, that prize gets awarded to the “Miso bath”. It took us about a minute of sitting in it to fully realise, but the smell was a big giveaway, and seemed to permeate throughout the onsen in a very unpleasant way. And somehow the seats in the sauna managed to burn, which is a new experience!
There are also confusingly two pricing tiers, with one just for the baths, and one to access the “second floor”, which just seemed to be a rest area, however it cost an extra ¥1000.
Overall, would recommend giving this one a miss!
